Preschool education in Karvia
The municipality of Karvia organizes preschool education at the comprehensive school Opinpolu. Children who have reached the age of 6 are entitled to preschool education. In addition, 7-year-olds whose school start date has been postponed by a year and 5-year-olds who are subject to extended compulsory education (earlier as of 1 August 2026) are also entitled to preschool education. It is the responsibility of the guardian to ensure that the child participates in preschool education or other activities that achieve the goals of preschool education.
The scope of preschool education is 700 hours per year. The daily preschool education time is four hours (9-13). Preschool education generally follows the school academic year, with preschool education ending on the last weekday in May (Monday - Friday).
Preschool education is systematic teaching and upbringing, which is based on the national preschool curriculum. The main goal is to support the child's comprehensive growth and development and improve learning conditions before school age. Open and natural cooperation with homes is a prerequisite for the success of preschool education.
Play, functional working methods, experiential learning and experience in a diverse learning environment are methods of preschool education.
Registration for preschool education takes place in February-March. Registration is done using an electronic form.
If necessary, a paper form can also be picked up from the comprehensive school.
The municipality arranges transportation for children in preschool if the distance from home to the preschool is more than 3 km.
Preschool children have the right to part-time supplementary early childhood education.
A preschooler can also apply for a place in the school's morning and afternoon activities, which are organized
at the comprehensive school from 6:30 to 9:00 and from 13:00 to 16:30. Supplementary early childhood education is organised at the kindergarten. Supplementary early childhood education is applied for using an electronic early childhood education application.
