Municipal administration
The autonomy of municipalities is guaranteed by the Finnish Constitution. Every four years, residents elect a municipal council in municipal elections, which decides on municipal affairs. The council is responsible for the municipality's finances and operations.
The municipal board, appointed by the council, is responsible for the practical running of the municipality's administration and finances, prepares accountability matters, monitors the municipality's interests, and represents the municipality.
The municipal council elects the mayor, who acts under the government.
Boards are not mandatory, but in practice, boards consisting of elected officials have been established in every municipality.
Municipal strategy
Municipalities and joint municipal authorities direct their operations by making various plans. Each municipality is required to make a financial plan in accordance with the Municipalities Act, which approves the municipality's operational and financial goals. Several municipalities have also prepared various strategies.
The overall strategy of a municipality examines the operational entirety of the municipality. The strategy can also be limited to examining a specific area of activity. Regardless of its scope, it is always an action plan in which the municipality has adapted its operations to changes in the operating environment and is preparing to face an increasingly difficult to predict future – in the way it sees fit.
Municipal strategy of Karvia Municipality
The municipal strategy of Karvia Municipality for 2020–2025 was approved by the municipal council on June 25, 2020.
The municipal strategy defines the target state – Karvia 2025 – and the most important means to achieve the goals by sub-area.
- In 2025, Karvia will be an independent city, walking its own path. Karvia is a vibrant, distinctive and welcoming pioneer community with a solid economy.
- Karvia is an entrepreneur- and family-friendly municipality, and is quite active considering its size.
- Karvia offers its residents high-quality local services in a cost-effective manner.
- The municipality, which is known for its sports-friendly nature and local culture, offers extensive and diverse leisure services and personalized events, characterized by a sense of teamwork and community.
- Tourists have found their way to the municipality. Tourists visit Anne's Art Café, nature sites, and follow events at the Skantzi Cultural Center. The Kammi to Skantzi Arts Route has become a well-known tourist destination.
- Karvia is known as a distinctive and vibrant municipality, with diverse and high-quality services for its size. Karvia still has active and diverse sports and cultural activities.
- Karvia is a pleasant municipality that has preserved its rural character and beautiful landscape. In addition to industry and good services, it is also known for its diverse agriculture. In addition to specialized farming, Karvia produces quality milk and meat. There are numerous operating companies of various sizes in Karvia.
